British singer-songwriter Tulisa is opening up about her 12-year health battle and how this forced a major change in her appearance.
In an interview with Olivia Attwood's "So Wrong It's Right" podcast, the "I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!" star spoke about her struggles with Bell's Palsy and how she believes this has resulted in more health problems that spanned for more than a decade.
Tulisa, 36, had her first Bell's Palsy attack 12 years ago and admitted to using fillers to "balance out" her face.
"I sat at home and I had this huge burst of inflammation on my cheek, it's like I had an abscess there or something," she shared.
"It went down to a certain extent, [but] left with some mild swelling and then my whole face just dropped."
For seven months she hid at home while suffering from the effects of the condition until she decided to get fillers and it became a "vicious cycle."
Bell's Palsy is a condition wherein the muscles on one side of the face become weak and at times, paralyzed. The cause is unknown and it may affect people of any age, the Mayo Clinic explained.
Tulisa, real name Tulisa Contostavlos, has since gone through several more health scares--she's had three chronically infected cysts on her face and had suffered from sarcoidosis and other immune disorders.
Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory disease characterized by a group of cells forming clusters of inflamed tissue in one o more organs, according to the American Lung Association.
Fans have recognized a change in Tulisa's appearance over the years and have taken to social media to slam her for undergoing too many cosmetic surgeries. However, after sharing her health battles and joining the reality show, the TV personality hopes that people "see the person" she really is.
